Anyway, Spring has come upon us, which means outdoor track season is in full swing. In my case, however, it seems as if it is just beginning. Thanks to weird injuries that have no clinical or physiological explanation that just go away as quickly and strangely as they came on, tag-teamed with Devil Pizza Ranch Food Poisoning Flu (the newest epidemic that will soon flood the nation with fear and hysteria), I have been kinda sidelined for the past couple of weeks. This week though, I'm back on the saddle and ready to race. I will be opening up my season running the 5000m at this weekend's Sioux City Relays. Coming from someone who would really just rather have cross country year-round instead of having to deal with the tantalizing, nerve-wracking monotony of the circular confinements of the track, I am actually really excited for this race. It's been a long time since I've raced, and I'm getting that thirst for opponent blood again. Before my injury/illness ordeal, I felt I was really coming into something good; I was really hitting workouts hard and I just felt awesome. Now that I'm well again, I am very pumped to come into that shape I feel I was just on the verge of breaking into. We will see how the weekend turns out.
Of course, I will not be the only Viking competing in Sioux City this weekend. The rest of the team will be there as well, and everyone is gearing up for the weekend. One notable race to watch for is the men's DMR, where we will have two teams competing against each other. The two teams are pretty evenly matched, and there has been no shortage of trash talk and fighting words between these eight athletes. Which team will win? Find out this weekend.
